There are numerous performance opportunities in the OSU Music Department.  Participation is open to both music majors and non-music majors, and placement is determined by audition.  

Wind Ensemble

The University Wind Ensemble is the premier performing organization in the Oklahoma State University Band Program. Using a player-pool concept, the 50-member ensemble joins in various combinations to present the best in exciting and diverse wind music. Repertoire may range from a classical octet to a one-on-a-part performance of a major band work. Recent performances for conventions of the All-Japan Band Directors Conference, the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles, the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, the College Band Directors National Association, the National Band Association, the Sonneck Society, the Percussive Arts Society, Oklahoma Music Educators Association, and Kappa Kappa Psi/Tau Beta Sigma have earned the Wind Ensemble international acclaim.

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band, an organization of approximately 80 musicians selected by audition, is made up of music majors as well as talented students from other disciplines. Exploring traditional large band repertoire, transcriptions, and contemporary works, the group maintains an active performance schedule. The Symphonic Band enjoys a fine reputation as a group committed to the highest musical standards.

Cowboy Marching Band

The Cowboy Marching Band, nearly 300 members strong,  is the premiere musical ambassador of the OSU Music Department.  The full CMB performs for all OSU home football games, regularly playing in front of 40,000 people.

Spirit Band

Spirit Band

The OSU Spirit Band performs for OSU Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball and Wrestling. OSU has accumulated 48 NCAA National Championships, the fourth-most in NCAA history. Only Stanford, USC and UCLA own more national titles.  Participation in Spirit Band gives you a front row seat for some of these historic events.

Jazz Ensemble I

Jazz Ensemble I is a twenty piece jazz big band that performs on and off campus.  The ensemble has recently performed at the Oklahoma State Convention of the International Association of Jazz Educator’s and as an honor ensemble at the Oklahoma Music Educator’s Association Convention.  The ensemble has performed with guest artists such as Gregg Bissonette, Andy Martin, Ben Patterson and Allen Beeson.

Jazz Ensemble II

Jazz Ensemble II is a twenty piece jazz big band that performs campus concerts.

The OSU Orchestra Program consists of the OSU Symphony Orchestra and the newly formed Chamber Orchestra. The OSU Symphony Orchestra is open to both music majors and non-music majors by audition. The orchestra maintains a dynamic and varied performance schedule that includes repertoire spanning the late Baroque era through the music of today. The Chamber Orchestra provides advanced students the opportunity to perform orchestral literature in a more intimate setting alongside OSU music faculty.

Trombone Ensembles

OSU Trombone Ensembles

Trombone ensembles are an integral part of the OSU Trombone studio and include everything from quartets up to a large trombone ensemble of 16-20 players.  These groups play for campus, regional and national events and have premiered works by composers David Herring, James Kazik and Joseph Cooper.  

Jazz Trombone Ensemble

The Jazz Trombone Ensemble is 4-6 trombones and rhythm section.  The ensemble has performed for the OSU Student Union Activity Board Summer Concert Series and at the Big 12 Area Trombone Conference. They have also performed with trombone artists Andy Martin and Alex Iles.
