New York Philharmonic Visits OSU, Joe Alessi Presents Masterclass

From September 21-24, 2023, the New York Philharmonic was on campus for its third residency since 2019.  The visit included three different concerts by the New York Philharmonic and numerous masterclasses.  The OSU Trombone Studio was fortunate to have a masterclass with principal trombonist Joe Alessi.

The students who performed for the masterclass were the OSU Trombone Octet, Dylan Halliday, Antonio Gamez, Jimmy Dorsaint, and Ethan Do.  It was an incredible opportunity for our students to learn from the most influential trombonist of all time.

The New York Philharmonic performances were stunning and included performances of Copland’s Symphony No. 3, Ravel’s Bolero, Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Dvorak’s New World Symphony, and numerous famous film scores. It was incredible!

This opportunity was made possible by a collaboration between the New York Philharmonic, McKnight Center for the Performing Arts, and the OSU Greenwood School of Music.  This wasn’t the last time the New York Philharmonic will be in Stillwater!  More details soon!
